EXCLUSIVE: Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Caleb Landry Jones (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri) and Jay Baruchel (Goon) are joining the cast of Lone Scherfigs latest movie, I can reveal. The movie is now underway in Toronto and will soon head to Copenhagen and New York.

As previously announced, Andrea Riseborough (Death Of Stalin), Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) and Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick) also star in the ensemble piece from the One Day and Their Finest filmmaker, who has also written the script. The project was previously announced as Secrets From The Russian Tea Room butthe film is currently untitled as the filmmakers consider another name.

UK sales outfit HanWay has world sales rights with finance on the movie coming from Ingenious Media and Apollo Media. I can also reveal today that Entertainment One will distribute in Canada and SF Studios in Scandinavia. Principal photography started in Toronto on March 23.

The movie, described by the production as a “modern day fairy-tale including laughter and romance”, will chart the story of a group of people going through the worst crises of their lives. An opulent Russian restaurant in New York City will provide much of the movies backdrop. Characters include an ER nurse who runs an eclectic therapy group (Riseborough); an ex-con turned restaurant manager (Rahim); a mother looking to avoid her abusive cop husband (Kazan); a young man in desperate need of a job (Landry Jones); a lawyer with high ethics but low self-esteem (Baruchel); and the owner of the restaurant and the grandson of Russian immigrants (Nighy).

Malene Blenkov (Backstabbing For Beginners) is producing for Creative Alliance and Canadas Strada Films, in co-production with Frances DArtagnan, Germanys Nadcon and Swedens Unlimited Stories. Pic is financed with the support of the Danish Film Institute and Telefilm Canada, DR, Copenhagen Film Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, Film Väst, SF Studios, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, ARTE Grand Accord/WDR, Entertainment One and Ingenious Senior Film Fund.

Heads of department include cinematographer Sebastian Blenkov (Miss Sloane), production designer Carol Spier (Pacific Rim), costume designer Louize Nissen (A War) and composer Mark Korvin (The Witch: A New-England Folktale).
