The Emergence Creative festival – dubbed the ‘anti conference’ for it’s reputation as a hive of creative thinkers and spontaneous artistic expression – will kick off this week with the official opening party, the Creative Crawl on Wednesday night.

Held in collaboration with the Margaret River Night Markets, the party will take in local venues along the main street as well as a street party at the closed-off Fearn Avenue.

Night Market coordinator Katrina Lombardo said the event would feature a range of popular market stall holders.

“We will have Mala Dumplings, Salento Wood Fired Pizza, Margaret River Chef (Yakitori) and Claudio Biscotti as well as the delicious Cavalcade Desserts, all serving their dishes here around Riversmith and Fearn Avenue.

The street will be closed to traffic to allow for the market vendors and other art pop ups to be installed, while a spectacular show combining art and lighting technology will be projected onto the side of the Riversmith building.

“We first saw this light show in Fremantle and it was simply stunning, so we are very happy to be welcoming them down here to Margaret River.

“It’s really exciting to be combining the Night Markets with the main street businesses too, town just comes alive when it’s full of families out and about in the evening.”

Live music will also be on offer at Settlers Tavern, Swings Taphouse, ELKAMO and Burger Baby, with those venues and many others in the main street offering Creative Crawl discounts and specials on food and drinks.

Margaret River-based artist Stu McMillan said he had been involved with the festival for many years and praised the development of the programme.

“Emergence has gone from strength to strength over the years as those ideas and projects that are initially created have seen the light of day.” he said.

"I think more people are understanding how important it is to support creative industries and how beneficial it can be to our region in many ways, not just for the arts.”

McMillan said he was looking forward to getting up to some "artistic mischief with the spray paint cans” at Creative Crawl and encouraged everyone to head down to the event.

Lombardo said the event would offer affordable fun for the whole family. “It’s a great reason to head into town, pick up some dinner, listen to some fantastic music and watch art being created right in front of you.”

The Creative Crawl will kick off from 6pm Wednesday March 21 in Margaret River. For more info and the full Emergence Program visit emergencecreative.com
