Jorja Smith is continuing her whirlwind year by taking on the Somerset House Summer Series later this year.

The 20-year-old – who recently won the Brits Critics Choice Award – will be taking to the stage at the annual festival on Friday 13 July.

She’s joined a huge line-up for the London festival, including MGMT, Róisín Murphy and Wiley.

And all of this has come before the singer has even released her debut album – which is hopefully set to drop very soon.

Jorja has gained a huge following musically over the last few years, singing alongside Drake on Get It Together, and appearing on the Black Panther soundtrack.

Speaking to Complex, she admitted she isn’t putting any pressure on herself in terms of her career – and is ecstatic to be among such huge names in UK music.

When asked where she fits in with other female singers at the moment, she confessed: ‘I just see it as me making a space for myself, not against anyone else.

‘Just to be up there with them—because everyone’s different and everyone has something different to offer, musically—it’s a great feeling. And it’s good for females to support each other, especially in music.

‘It’s nice for us all to be noticing talent and not getting jealous about anything.’

She also revealed she wants fans to enjoy the music more than anything, admitting her Instagram is often ‘minimal’ on purpose.

‘I think people can see from my Instagram that I try to keep it minimal, because I just want my music to be heard,’ she added. ‘I don’t want people to look at me first, and then listen to my music.

‘There are so many pretty girls on Instagram who have followers because they’re pretty. And before I started all of this, I didn’t have Instagram; I made it just before I released Blue Lights. So all the followers I’m getting are just from music, so what’s the point in changing?

‘Plus, I don’t want to change my image. I like how I look, and it’s not even about how you look—it’s more about what you say.’
