Bollywood fans are pretty furious about the Ek Do Teen remix

When will people learn – never mess with the classics.

Whether it’s childhood movies getting remade poorly, or legendary songs being remixed beyond belief, there’s always going to be people peeved when their nostalgic favourites are tampered with.

And when it comes to the remix of the Bollywood classic Ek Do Teen, it seems everybody’s childhood has been ruined.

The classic song from the 1988 film Tezaab has been remade for the upcoming action film Baaghi 2, and it has already racked up over 19 million views on YouTube.

Taking the place of the legendary actress and dancer Madhuri Dixit is newcomer Jacqueline Fernandez, who dances along to the lyrics sung by Shreya Ghoshal.

While the song has been updated with new beats and a sexier dance routine, many lovers of Madhuri Dixit’s innocent rendition are furious about the reboot.

One person tweeted: ‘Insult to Madhuri Dixit.. thats all i can say’, while another tweeted: ‘No one else can create that magic except Madhuri.’

As a die-hard Madhuri Dixit fan, I find this #EkDoTeen remix blasphemous and highly offensive. DO. NOT. TOUCH. THE. CLASSICS. I repeat, DO FUCKIN NOT!

The reason why original #EkDoTeen is such an iconic song is because the woman is seen being more than an object of desire. Madhuri dances beautifully in a quirky and fun way not trying to please anyone. The newer version does the exact opposite ??‍♀️

Dear Bollywood, what do you have against my childhood? Why do you have to ruin it with monstrosities like #EkDoTeen remix?

Another person critiqued the sexy routine, which sees Jacqueline dancing surrounded by men: ‘The reason why original #EkDoTeen is such an iconic song is because the woman is seen being more than an object of desire.

‘Madhuri dances beautifully in a quirky and fun way not trying to please anyone. The newer version does the exact opposite.’

And it’s not just fans who are angry about the remake.

Tezaab’s director N Chandra is reportedly considering action against Baaghi 2, calling the remake of Ek Do Teen ‘crass’.

The Quint reported that Chandra was told about the remake by the routine’s choreographer Saroj Khan at Sridevi’s funeral.

Chandra told IANS agency: ‘I can’t believe they’ve done this to Ek Do Teen. It’s crass beyond imagination. And Jacqueline Fernandez doing Madhuri Dixit’s number? Give me a break! It’s like turning the Central Park into a botanical garden.’

Baaghi 2 is released on 30 March.
