Run The Jewels are always on point when it comes to pop culture references and being ahead of the zeitgeist.

So, it’s hardly surprising that they’ve managed to create what could be this year’s most bad-ass music video without even appearing in it.

Stepping in to replace Killer Mike and El-P in the video for Oh Mama are none other than pop culture’s favourite cartoon characters of the decade, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith.

It’s maybe a bit of a climb down that they’re not starring in the official video for Get Schwifty or Terryfold, but the duo are undoubtedly the main attraction as they go Men In Black meets Pulp Fiction in the short.

Treating fans to a brand new outing, the music video is more of a fix in the lull between series three and four than anything else – but that’s not a bad thing.

Featuring Rick and Morty in a heist extravaganza which features the show’s trademark references to all-thing pop culture, the video sees the pair dressed up in black suits, skinny ties and dark shades, taking on the aliens and commiting many crimes.

Mixing up references from both MIB and Tarantino’s iconic film, the video is everything you’d want from a Rick and Morty episode, although sadly sans gags and one-liners.

The video has dropped not long after the announcement that Run The Jewels will headline the first-ever Adult Swim Festival, which is coming to the ROW DTLA in Los Angeles between 6-7 October this year.

No other musical acts have been announced yet, but more are on the way, reports Pitchfork.

And since it was Adult Swim vice president and creative director Jason DeMarco who paired Killer Mike up with El-P in the first place, that only seems fitting.

More: Rick and Morty

Of course, it’s not the first time Rick and Morty have teamed up with rappers given that LOGIC has appeared in the TV series as well as Ice-T.

Series three also saw Flight Of The Conchords’ Jemaine Clement make a musical cameo.
