The speeches from award winners at the Oscars can vary in length from tolerable to longer than Titanic.

So this year, Jimmy Kimmel has introduced a novel way of getting celebs to stop waffling – giving the shortest speech a prize.

Jimmy said that he would be timing every winner’s speech, with the person delivering the shortest speech getting a jet-ski.

And proving that it was the real deal and not just a joke, the curtains at the Dolby Theatre were pulled back to reveal Helen Mirren modelling in front of a jet-ski on stage.

If there is a revival of Bullseye, we reckon they should hit up Helen – what a pro.

The night’s first winner, Sam Rockwell for best supporting actor, started off the competition right, telling Jimmy to start his timer.

Sam’s speech lasted 1 minute 29 seconds, so the gauntlet has been thrown down.

And for the longest speeches?

More: Oscars

Well, they won’t be played off by music this year, according to Jimmy.

No, they will be driven off stage by Get Out star Lakeith Stanfield, who came on stage screaming ‘Get out’ just like his character Andre/Logan.

Hopefully it won’t be the last appearance of Get Out on the stage – Daniel Kaluuya is up for best actor, Jordan Peele for best director, and the film is nominated for best picture.

Stream the 90th Academy Awards on 4 March on the Sky Cinema Oscars channel via NOW TV available with a contract-free Sky Cinema Pass.
