Picture of grinning Irish great granny, 86, sledging goes viral
A picture of a grinning granny sledging in the snow has become the defining image of Storm Emma in Ireland.
Taken in Cork, the picture features 86-year-old great-grandmother Eileen Maguire and her grandson Jack.

The pair joined hundreds of others on Sweeney’s Hill in Rathpeacon, County Cork, to enjoy the snow.
Eileen told the BBC: ‘I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for my grandson Jack, I knew he’d be behind me and that I was safe.
‘I watched them all having a great time and thought I’d give it a go – it was just spur of the moment. It was scary to start with but it got easier as we went along.’
The picture was taken and uploaded by Eileen’s daughter-in-law Deborah, within hours the picture had gone viral after Cork Daily posted the picture on its Facebook page, creating over 1,000 comments and 6,000 shares.
Deborah said: ‘I think it’s amazing. The picture was a bit of fun. People are connecting from all over the country asking their grannies to give it a go too.
She added: ‘People tend to think of the elderly as feeble and this shows they are not. It’s amazing.
‘They can give us so much more.’
Linda Cooney commented: ‘You are as young as you feel. Well done Eileen’
