Emmerdale spoilers: Matthew Wolfenden and Amy Walsh reveal David’s shocking comment to Tracy Shankley that could destroy them
Given that he recently spent the night with Leyla Harding, David Metcalfe is a funny one to be judging others – but judge he does in coming Emmerdale scenes as he leaves Tracy Shankley heartbroken with a callous comment that could destroy their marriage for good.
David is trying to get his head around the fact that Tracy once accepted money for sex in her teenage years and when Phil’s trial makes the front page of the local newspaper, he is mortified at the whole village knowing his wife’s past.
While he has Dr Cavanagh round for dinner (to try and win his favour at the upcoming Retail Awards), David can’t hold back and his shoddy treatment of Tracy leaves her distraught. And when he tells her that he is ashamed of her, they could hit the rocks.
Matthew Wolfenden explained to Metro.co.uk: ‘This Phil character ends up on the front pages of the local papers. Other girls have spoken up because Tracy has. David gets a delivery of these newspapers and bins them all because he doesn’t want anyone in the village reading about it.
‘Then what happens is David is up for a retail award for the shop and he finds out that Dr Cavanagh is on the panel of judges. So David invites him, his wife and their daughter around. She’s in Jacob’s class at school. They come for a meal and during the meal Tracy gets a little bit drunk, goes outside and finds the papers in the bin. She comes back in and says in front of everyone: “Oh, has David told you I used to be a prostitute?” The doctor gets up with his wife, who’s a teacher, and very prim and proper and says: “I think we better leave now.” So that is another point where David is like with Tracy: “Do you know what, I’m done with you.”‘
But he then delivers a nasty line – Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy – shared: ‘She’s quite proud of herself for standing up to Phil. Phil has got all the shame on him. Tracy’s like: “How can you not be proud of me for helping other people?” It’s all to do with David’s ego and his business and he wants to win this award.
‘It’s that line where we’re outside and she says: “I see you’ve been hiding the papers. I know you’re ashamed of me” and he says something like: “Well, am I meant to be proud?” That’s a killer isn’t it?’
Can David and Tracy ever come back from this?
