With a Bollywood-influenced song on the way, it looks like Zayn has been getting plenty of inspiration recently from some of the big names of the genre.

The former One Direction singer recently recorded a song in Hindi with acclaimed producer and musician AR Rahman, with the track due to feature in a forthcoming film.

Zayn’s interest in Bollywood music has now seen him take on a song by the popular Indian singer Kalisah Kher – a Bollywood veteran with over 700 songs to his name.

Honing down that huge back catalogue to just one track, Zayn’s take on Kher’s hugely-popular Teri Deewani has now emerged.

Set in moody black-and-white, Zayn’s home recording is an intimate affair as he picks at a guitar – check it out below.

However, one Pakistani music critic took issue with Zayn’s cover – claiming that the singer had ‘destroyed’ Kher’s original track.

‘His cover of Kher’s Teri Deewani was a disaster,’ the review states. ‘Hoping to venture into Bollywood and qawalis, Malik could use a little more practice.

‘Also, Kailash Kher – we apologise on behalf of Malik.’

That’s two thumbs down, then.
