BTS turned down the offer to perform at the winter Olympics closing ceremony.

The septet were asked to perform, along with fellow K-pop star Psy, but they were forced to turn down the offer because of scheduling conflicts.

Director of the ceremony, Song Seung Hwan told Soompi: ‘We wanted to invite a few more teams, but there were also some that fell through due to scheduling and other issues. Included in those were PSY and BTS.’

He added: ‘We sent an offer to BTS early last year, but they have so many schedules abroad. It seemed likely that they would be abroad during the Olympics, so it was difficult to schedule them ahead of time.’

The closing ceremony lasted two hours and took place the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.

Team GB pulled in five medals – thanks to the efforts of skeleton racers Lizzy Yarnold, Laura Deas and Dom Parsons, as well as freestyle skier Izzy Atkin.

The closing ceremony include a fantastic choreographed routine that will bring together music, dance and art.

EXO performed, as did singer CL, who sang her hits The Baddest Female and I Am The Best.

Fans were so excited by EXO’s performance they tweeted about it eight million times within four hours, according to the head of social media for the International Olympic Committee.

Chair of UK Sport Dame Katherine Grainger said Team GB did ‘a brilliant job’ during this year’s games.

‘We have seen two weeks of phenomenal sport, there is a real interest from the British public and people do like to see us successful,’ she told BBC Sport.
