Stormzy has ended the 2018 Brit Awards with a seething and ferocious takedown of Theresa May and the UK press.

After a performance of his gospel song Blinded By Your Grace, Stormzy took things in a whole new direction by rapping new lyrics that slammed Theresa May for her handling of the 207 fire at Grenfell Tower.

‘Like yo Theresa May where’s the money for Grenfell?’ he raps before pausing and then angrily shouting: ‘What you thought we just forgot about Grenfell?’

He then adds: ‘You criminals, and you got the cheek to call us savages. You should do some jail time you should pay some damages,we should burn your house down and see if you can manage this.’

The moment was widely praised by viewers at home who had to sit through a largely non-political ceremony that saw short speeches and only the appearance of white roses to show support for the Times Up movement.

The blaze on 14 June killed 71 people and left hundreds homeless.

Money promised to Grenfell Tower survivors and evacuees to help cover the cost of Christmas did not show up in time for 18 families; Kim Taylor-Smith, the deputy leader of Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) council, said: ‘This was our error and we are sorry for this and have taken steps to deal with the households we are aware of.’

Among the 18 households who did not get a payment before Christmas were 10 from the Grenfell Tower and nearby Grenfell Walk and walkways where properties were evacuated when the June fire took place.

The other missed payments were to eight households from the wider estate.
