Movie tie-in toys are a certainty, even if you go down the collector’s route there’s figurines, replica props and, of course, the usual collection of dubious stationary items.

But it seems that Mattel are making a very special push when it comes to their line of Tomb Raider toys to celebrate the return of Lara Croft, as they’ve turned the pixel pin-up into a Barbie doll.

With Alicia Vikander set to try and capitalize on the success of the video games series relaunch by Square Enix by stepping into the jungle boots once worn by Angelina Jolie, the toy maker has unveiled what it probably hopes is its new must-have for collectors and children alike.

Revealed at the the New York Toy Fare over the weekend the new Barbie, made in the likeness of Swedish actress Alicia, is a little cleaner and unscuffed than the star of the film.

However, the doll is still scarily similar to its on-screen counterpart – from the hair down to the outfit, which includes a bandage around the leg (sans blood).

Tomb Raider barbie comes as ready for the adventure on Yamatai Island as the ‘real’ Lara Croft, with the doll receiving an axe, map and journal (just like Lara in the game).

Other accessories include a toy stand and a certificate of authenticity, for all those keen collectors.

Mattel unveiled the doll at the Mattel Collector event during the New York Toy Fair over the weekend, and the the pre-sale begins today on Barbie.com. Collectors will be able to purchase the doll for $29.99 (£21.40).

However, by the looks of it some fans have got their hands on it already as videos of the unboxing have begun to circulate online.

It’s not the only film toy tie-in that has had people talking as Hasbro seemed to drop a huge Solo spoiler with their unveiling at the collection – possibly giving away the story as to how Han and Chewie meet in the film.
