We’ll all be wearing merkins next winter and we’re here for it

Don’t know about you but I’m useless at grooming my pubic hair.

I try and keep a nice, tidy triangle and end up accidentally getting rid of all of it and looking like a plucked chicken.

It’s not a good look.

If only there was a way I could fake a neat little patch of glossy, curled hair on my nether regions.

Perhaps a little wig I could attach every day, depending on my mood.

Hold on a pubic hair curling second, what’s this?

Is that…pubic wigs...coming down the runway at New York Fashion Week?

Yas kween.

Designer Kaimin sent pubic wigs down the catwalk at her show at the Glass Houses during New York Fashion Week on 12 February.

The designer – who hails from South Korea but is based in New York City – says her work echoes ‘a continued search for the new and desire to break down boundaries and hierarchies’.

We think she’s nailing it by juxtaposing the soft, purity of the merkin with her otherwise cyber goth aesthetic.

Please enjoy the following pubic inspiration.

Where did merkins even come from?

According to the Oxford Companion to the Body, they date back to the 1450s, when women would shave their pubic hair to get rid of lice.

Rich women could afford to keep themselves lice-free, so would keep their hair.

Poorer women would wear a pubic wig to cover up their shaved area, and apparently prostitutes wore merkins to hide signs of syphilis. Super cute.

It’s thought the word ‘merkin’ is derived from the word ‘malkin’ – a derogatory word for lower class women.

These days, pubic wigs are often used in film and TV, as a ‘safety blanket’ for an otherwise exposed actor – Rooney Mara wore one in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, fact fans.

So there you have it – let it be known that fanny fluff is en vogue.

Don’t let a partner dictate your pubes – if you want to run wild with your fanny follicles, go for it.
