Loyle Carner has pulled a shock move and abandoned his plans to play Radio 1’s live lounge with just hours to spare.

The rapper was due to perform his covers on the show on Thursday 15 February, but was forced to pull out after bosses said his covers were no good.

He picked tracks from Kanye, Kendrick Lamar and the Fugees, but was apparently told they weren’t ‘big enough hits’ for him to go through with the performance.

Loyle tweeted the news: ‘Sadly I won’t be in the live lounge today. Even though I wrote 3 covers. Kendrick Lamar – Feel, Kanye West – 30 Hours, Fugees – The Score.

‘I was told none of them were “big enough hits”‘.

The cheeky BBC 6 then tried to poach him, commenting: ‘Do you want to come and do a session for us tomorrow?’

Fans were outraged that they’d missed out on hearing hims covers, with one tweeting: ‘@BBCR1 is for weapons anyway… get yourself over to @BBC6Music where the REAL people are.’

Another added: ‘What? That’s a joke. Mate you should record them and put em online anyway.’

The turn of events happened incredibly last minute, as BBC R1 tweeted at 11am that Loyle would be on at 12pm.

His performance was set to be ahead of next week’s Brit awards, where he is hoping to take home the gongs for British breakthrough act and British male solo artist.

The Brit Awards take place on Wednesday 21 February at London’s O2 Arena.
