Michael Fassbender ‘to join David Hasselhoff for Kung Fury sequel’ as action homage heads for big screen
Actor Michael Fassbender has reportedly signed up to star in the sequel to crowdfunded YouTube hit Kung Fury, alongside David Hasselhoff.
The original Kung Fury film – a crowdfunded OTT ode to 80s action films – blew up on YouTube as a viral sensation in 2015.
The film, which was directed by and starred Swedish actor David Sandberg, raised $630,000 (£454,000) and featured everything from leveling entire cities, to time travel, dinosaurs and resurrected Adolf Hitler.
The 30 minute short racked up even more fame from it’s accompanying theme tune, True Survivor, which reached number one on the iTunes chart and featured Knight Rider legend The Hoff delivering his best notes.
The story follows super cop Kung Fury as he travels back in time from 1980’s Miami to defeat Adolf Hitler, aka Kung Fuhrer – the best kung fu fighter on the planet.
Fassbender has apparently joined up for a big screen outing with director and writer Sandberg announcing the new signee in a tweet.
‘Welcome to the Kung Fury family Mr. Fassbender! #KungFury,’ tweeted the Swedish director.
No further information, release date or further details have been provided at this stage, other than the recently confirmed additions of Hoff and Fassbender.
