Paramount Players and Imagine Entertainment have started development of a biopic on rapper Gucci Mane’s memoir entitled The Autobiography of Gucci Mane.

According to Variety, the studio had obtained the life rights to Mane and film rights for the book. Mane – real name Radric Delantic Davis – is also set to be a producer on the movie, alongside Erica Higgins and Brian Grazer, whose previously worked on 8 Mile and A Beautiful Mind.

The book chronicles his life from a childhood of poverty in Alabama and his move to Atlanta, where he became involved in crime.

The 37-year-old spent nearly three years in prison starting in 2004 after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Whilst incarcerated he began releasing mixtapes with other rappers like Migos and Young Thug, and is considered a pioneer of trap music.

He released The Autobiography of Gucci Mane in September 2017 and became a New York Times bestseller.

Mane is a pioneer of the hip-hop genre known as trap music. He made his studio album debut in 2005 with “Trap House,” the first of a dozen studio albums, followed by “Hard to Kill.”

The book tells of his childhood in poverty in Alabama and his move to Atlanta, where he became involved in criminal activity. He spent nearly three years in prison starting in 2004 after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and marijuana possession. While incarcerated, he began releasing mixtapes from prison with rappers Migos and Young Thug.

The Atlanta rapper released The Autobiography of Gucci Mane in September 2017 and it became a New York Times Bestseller.

Mane told Vulture in 2017: ‘It took me going to prison to be able to sit down, write, and reflect on my life. I always knew that I was an amazing person, and I’m saying this as humbly as I can, but a lot of artists are super talented, but they’re not fascinating.
