Diesel has created fake store to sell real bootlegs and we’re as confused as you
If you’ve ever been to Thailand or had a mate come back from their gap yah in South-East Asia, chances are you that you own a stash of bootleg designer clobber.
It might be a Versase handbag or a D&B belt, but it looks pretty legit from far away.
Fake fashion is everywhere – it’s even being advertised on Instagram these days.
And what do you do if you’re a designer brand which keeps getting ripped off? Join in on the fun, of course.
Diesel has started putting out its own fake merch, by setting up a genuine fake store selling real bootlegs.
CONFUSING, RIGHT?
‘There’s always been knockoff culture,’ founder Renzo Rosso tells Dazed.
‘But we want to celebrate people who embrace their imperfections and above all people that feel free to wear whatever they want. It’s about being relaxed about today’s style rules.’
The brand’s latest campaign is called Go With The Flaw, and the collection carries on that theme with deliberately misspelt Deisal logos.
‘We want to inspire people to not only accept flaws in their lives but to wear imperfection with pride and turn them into positive traits.’
It’s all available to buy online or at the pop-up store on NYC’s Canal Street (where most of the passersby seem to have no idea that they’re buying legit merch).
