Siege Of Quebec faces biggest test in Eskimo Prince Stakes

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and when it comes to Siege Of Quebec, as long as the colt is winning it doesn't matter if he is more Jackson Pollock than Leonardo da Vinci.

The Fastnet Rock colt has built a record of four wins in five starts with his busy, even ugly, style of racing but he is effective.

He enters probably his biggest test in Saturday's Eskimo Prince Stakes at Warwick Farm, taking on Kementari and Assimilate who have already been to group 1 level.

"The way he races is not beautiful, more brutal, he makes it look tough, but he gets the job done," co-trainer Adrian Bott said. "He is a colt that needs a bit of racing, that's why we went to the 1100m first-up then the natural step to 1200m before 1400m and the mile of the Guineas."

Siege Of Quebec is another to wear the navy blue of Coolmore and another Fastnet Rock stallion, like group 1 winner Merchant Navy, which boasts the same record and returns in the the Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Bustled early, Siege Of Quebec never looked comfortable first-up and took every bit of the straight to beat Kennedy when an odds-on favourite. He will be closer to a $4 chance on Saturday just in the strength of the field.

"He has taken benefit from that first-up run and I think he will continue to improve," Bott said. "I think the extra pressure will suit him on Saturday."

The Gai Waterhouse-Bott stable also has group 2 winner Prompt Response returning in the Breeders Classic and while she is yet to win first-up, there is a bit of confidence around her.

"She is a quality mare that is looking for 1400m but the way this race will be run, she maps well," Bott said.

"Don't be surprise if she is charged home, but her main goal is the Coolmore Classic next month."
