Black Panther knocked off Rotten Tomatoes perch after getting first bad review
Black Panther has had its first negative review, ruining its 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
After seeing off internet trolls who tried to sabotage its rating as they blame Marvel for the negative reviews the DC Extended Universe has received, it has only taken one review to dent the perfect scoring.
The 3-star review, from Independent.ie, calls the film a ‘stodgy tale of internecine feuding’ and criticises it for not having enough fight sequences.
‘What [Black Panther] doesn’t get to do much of is jump around beating-up bad guys,’ it reads.
‘That’s a shame. Marvel has finally given us an African superhero. The hope surely was that he would be allowed do superheroic things.’
It seems to be the film’s only lukewarm review so far – and admittedly it isn’t that much of a whingefest – but fans are furious to see the score on the be-all-and-end-all Rotten Tomatoes slip.
Critic Jamie Broadnax tweeted: ‘This one negative reviewer of Black Panther gave it a rotten because T’Challa doesn’t beat up enough “bad guys”. Really my dude?’
Another tweeted: ‘The guy who gave #BlackPanther 3/5 and destroyed its 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes waffles through his review, ending stating that there’s ‘not enough beating up bad guys’. This review lacks any sort of substance and the writer doesn’t actually make any worthwhile points…’
However others came to critic Ed Power’s defence, with one disgruntled film fan saying: ‘You can’t give a bad review for #BlackPanther! So, basically, you are not allowed to give your opinion. Where is the freedom of speech now?’
‘Y’all do realize that the rotten tomatoes ratings dont mean shit right? You like it go see it. Multiple times. The box office is where this counts not online behind a keyboard,’ another tweet read.

That fact everyone is coming for Ed Power aka “Negative Nancy” and his pointless review on Rotten Tomatoes about #BlackPanther is just another reason why I must see the greatness for myself.

You can't give a bad review for #BlackPanther! So, basically, you are not allowed to give your opinion. Where is the freedom of speech now?

I'm afraid of saying that I don't like #BlackPanther if I don't like it, apparently nobody can criticise the movie or say anything bad about it.

So there’s a critic that gave #BlackPanther a bad review for not beating up enough bad guys. I say they add a scene where everyone beats up the critic.

You’ll be able to form your own opinion when it comes out on 12 February.
