Nyngan’s Anna Carter has described four weeks she spent doing charity work at a Ugandan primary and nursery school as “life changing”.

Over her summer break in November Ms Carter left for Uganda to volunteer her time at ‘Life Charity Focus’ and Joy Blessed Nursery and Primary school.
The private school was built with the help of major sponsors and the LCF fundraiser ball held in 2017.
Ms Carter spent most of her time here where she was lucky enough to graduate the first year 7 class, ran a worming project for 450 children, ran educational programs on sanitation and hygiene, family planning and modern farming, and taught English and History.
Ms Carter describes the entire experience as "life changing and extremely rewarding".
During her second week, Ms Carter discovered two disabled boys aged 15 and 11, who were mosquito ridden and covered in torn clothing. Shortly she discovered the boys had been abandoned at a young age.
"The boys have slept on the ground their entire lives with no parents, no education, no hope, limited food and one set of clothes," she said.
Ms Carter purchased clothes, food, soap, mattresses, mosquito nets and blankets for the boys, and enrolled them in the LCF program.
"With help from sponsors of LCF, the boys have also received wheelchairs and have a new lease on life," she said.
LCF was established in 2015 by Moses Gorie, former sponsor child of Jack and Dione Carter from Nyngan. Due to the generosity of the Carter family, Moses was inspired to establish his own sponsorship program ‘Life Charity Focus’.
Four years later the program, run entirely by volunteers and members of the community, has seen considerable growth.
"LCF is much more than a sponsorship program. It is a community based, non-profit organisation that engages in children’s development with the goal of improving the livelihood of vulnerable children and their families.
"It also provides private quality education for over 400 children and offers over 40 locals with a secure job," said Ms Carter.
Last year a fundraiser ball was held for LCF which saw 200 people attend and raised over $30,000.
The proceeds from the ball went towards the construction of four new classrooms, the purchase of more land for the playground, the construction of a girl’s boarding house and school fees for 300 children.
LCF will be hosting another charity ball on March 3 at the Nyngan Riverside Tourist Park.
