Tonight’s the night for the biggest game in the animal sports calendar – the Puppy Bowl XIV – and two rescued puppies from Puerto Rico will be the stars of the show.

Kaleb Jr and Archer were flown to America after their homes were destroyed by Hurricane Maria.

The Puppy Bowl is held every year by Animal House to raise awareness of puppies who are in need of homes.

This year the stars of the show will be from The Sato Project which saves dogs from danger zones.

Sato Project founder Chrissy Beckles told Bustle: ‘We had 72 hours prior where we needed to get our dogs out of the vets’ offices, and 48 hours out, we had evacuated 60 of our dogs to a volunteer property that was higher up in the mountains.

‘The Puppy Bowl has certainly taken on a different meaning for our organisation this year. The crisis in Puerto Rico is far from over.’

The organisation has rescued an amazing 1,000 dogs when normally it rescues 350 dogs a year.

Beckles added: ‘We’re seeing more [unintended] puppies being born than ever, more so than I’ve ever seen in the 11 years I’ve been working in Puerto Rico.’

Over 90 fluffy pups will be competing for the honour of MVP of the Puppy Bowl tonight.
