Craig David had too many bangers for new album The Time Is Now so he’s planning SECOND album for 2018
Craig David has just released his album The Time Is Now, and yet he’s already talking about releasing the next one – because he already has the material.
In fact he had so many songs for his first album, he’s pretty much just splitting it in two.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk he said selecting his best songs for the album was tricky because they were all just too damn good. Fair one, given that The Time Is Now is set to be a huge hit.
‘I compile my songs into A, B, C list. So I was getting a load that when I first started doing the B list, I thought “okay, that’s cool, rocking” and then a couple start trickling into the A list. They kind of do pick themselves and I know when a song feels like a banger,’ he said of how he whittles them down.
But he quickly realised there was just too much good stuff.
‘Then the A list started to grow and grow and spill, where it was like we were up to 20, 25 songs in the A list and then at that point I was thought we might be able to have another album out in 2018, otherwise it would have been 2019.’
He added that the songs that didn’t make it are all worthy singles anyway, so this second album already sounds pretty good.
‘We got it down to 13, 14 songs for an album and the songs that didn’t even make it, not to gas them, but they are songs that other artists would release as singles all day, every day,’ Craig said.

The album has now charted on the Official Charts, having been released last week, and by midweeks he’d already made it to number two, making him the highest new entry and proving he selected the best out of that great bunch of tracks.
Although he’s keeping it real. ‘It’s not even about where it charts,’ he said. ‘Or how many records it sells. If you want the feel good 90s, 2000s records, but in a way that is packaged differently then this is the one.’
