Coronation Street director Tim Dowd arrested on suspicion of grooming a 13-year-old girl who was an undercover police officer
One of Coronation Street’s directors, Tim Dowd, has been arrested on suspicion of grooming a 13-year-old girl who was a police officer undercover. The 65-year-old, who directed last night’s double episode of the soap, was held at his £500,000 home in the village of East Keswick in West Yorkshire, on suspicion of enticing a child into sexual activity.
Tim was caught in a sting by the police and is now facing charges. It is believed that the freelance director has lost his role on the show, which will not employ him for any further episodes. He has worked on the show across 24 years, having directed over 200 episodes.
Previously, he has worked on shows such as Emmerdale, Casualty and Heartbeat.
A spokesperson for ITV said: ‘As a police investigation is underway, we are not in a position to comment.’
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: ‘A man was arrested on Friday last week on suspicion of an internet grooming offence. He has been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing.’
His arrest comes just months after the dismissal of actor Bruno Langley, who played Todd Grimshaw in the show. The disgraced star admitted to sexual assaults on two women in a nightclub but avoided prison.
