The helicopter 'rolled over' as the pilot was trying to land, according to a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The crash comes just two days after a chopper accident in nearby Newport Beach killed three people.

Joseph Tena, 60, Kim Watzman, 45, and Brian Reichelt, 56, were in the helicopter that took off from John Wayne Airport, headed for Catalina Island, when the crash took place.

A cause of the crash of the R44 copter is 'under unknown circumstances' and could take months to determine.

The helicopter crashed into a gated community in Newport, soon after takeoff, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

The craft crashed on the side of a house in the Newport area, with its tail rotor sticking out of the roof of a nearby home.

Another 6-foot chunk of the aircraft landed in front of another home in the street.
