Stoke City have completed a deal to sign Badou Ndiaye from Galatasaray after overcoming work permit issues just hours before the deadline.

The 27-year-old travelled to England on Tuesday after Stoke agreed a £14.5million fee with the Turkish club, but had to wait until Wednesday night to formally announce his arrival.

Due to the strange world of employment administration, after being granted a work permit the midfielder had to leave the country in order to get back in with his new documentation.

Arriving on a temporary visa, Ndiaye had to wait for clearance before rushing to Manchester airport to take the first available flight to Paris before turning around and coming straight back.

An added layer of complication was the fact Ndiaye only just fell short of the required amount of international matches for his country to qualify for an automatic permit.

With Senegal 24th in the FIFA World Rankings, Ndiaye needed to have played more than 60 per cent of his country's fixtures in the past 24 months.

Senegal have played 19 matches in the last two years, with Ndiaye playing in only 10 of them, thus just missing out on the threshold.

In the end, the formalities were completed well before the 11pm deadline and his arrival was confirmed during half-time of their Premier League match against Watford, when he was presented at the bet365 Stadium.

Ndiaye only joined Galatasaray in the summer, for £6.75m from Osmanlispor, and the Super Lig side have decided to cash in.
