J.K. Rowling has responded to criticism levelled at Fantastic Beasts 2 for not addressing Dumbledore’s sexuality.

It was recently revealed how sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald won’t ‘explicitly’ reference Dumbledore’s homosexuality, with many hoping for the opposite after JK Rowling stated he fell in love with the dark wizard in his youth.

While the interview in question was with film director David Yates, Rowling has clearly been on the receiving end of the online storm and teased it could be included in future installments.

Taking to Twitter, Rowling posted a mute gif, writing: ‘Being sent abuse about an interview that didn’t involve me, about a screenplay I wrote but none of the angry people have read, which is part of a five-movie series that’s only one instalment in, is obviously tons of fun, but you know what’s even *more* fun?’

She added: ‘Twitter without the mute button would be hell. (Heaven would be an edit button, @Twitter).’

In the original interview, when asked about whether Dumbledore’s sexuality will be made clear in the sequel, Yates said: ‘Not explicitly.

‘But I think all the fans are aware of that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young men. They fell in love with each other’s ideas, and ideology and each other.’

Dumbledore is set to be played by Jude Law in the sequel, which follows Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

The sequel will see Eddie Redmayne return as Newt Scamander, and will also see Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol and Ezra Miller all reprise their roles.
