Ramz is a name that should already be on your lips. But if not, it will be after this.
He is a 20-year-old singer fresh from Uni who has just managed to storm to number two in the charts, beating the likes of Ed Sheeran and Eminem in the battle, and only narrowly missing out to Drake. Just a lad from south London proving anything is possible.
Ramz studied sports science at the University Of Portsmouth until lastyear, but has now gone full steam ahead with his music. And it’s getting traction, he’s already had recognition from the likes of Dizzy Rascal, Stormzy, Giggs, Tinie Tempah.

‘They’ve been sending me messages to say keep going,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk. ‘When you get a message from them it’s like these people have been doing it from a young age – they respect me. They’re listening to me!’
Ramz himself is blown away by his success, and not least because he considers himself just a normal lad trying to do what he loves. His recent video for the track Barking, for instance, was filmed around the town it was named after with just a modest camera set up.
‘[In the video] I’m going about my business and that’s what it was like. My friends were in it, it wasn’t done with a massive camera crew, it was small budget,’ he confessed.
He was involved every step of the way with the shoot.
‘Yeah everything was mainly done by me, I was like “this is how I want it to work”,’ he said, firmly taking his own career in his hands.
Although there’s one thing he regrets about the video, his cocktail: ‘It was a pinacolada,’ he said. ‘It was very nasty.’
His mum has been making waves as much as he has, tweeting her support for her son by hitting up some of music’s biggest names – including Stormzy. In typical embarrassing mum fashion.
‘She’s very supportive, I think it’s funny,’ Ramz said. ‘She’s playing a role so I can’t misjudge her. Some of the things she does do is very funny. Her replies on Twitter. She doesn’t actually know how to tweet, she tweeted for the first time the other day.’
When asked about the fact he blocked her recently, he explained: ‘I gave her a little time then was like “you know what, unblock her”.’ Ruthless.
He counts 50 Cent as a huge influence on his music, as well as Bruno Mars and Travis Scott and got into music at a young age when he took up drumming.
Before uni he played several shows as a drummer, including at the Royal Albert Hall and Notting Hill Carnival, while also taking on jobs in Primark and Sainsbury’s.
‘I was always in the music world it was just depending on what route I would take whether it would be drumming or being the main person on stage making my own songs,’ he said. ‘I also worked in Sainsbury’s. I was there at the peak time, Or the start of everything big. I was at Sainbury’s when I was on three million views. I kept working there to make the bread for the next video.’
Amazingly, he became so famous from his Youtube videos he had to quit his supermarket job because he kept getting recognised. Which only spurred him on.
Most recently, he’s been announced as part of the 2018 Wireless line up. And he joked he’ll hit them up with a huge rider.
‘I might shed a few tears,’ he said when speaking of nerves. ‘My rider – I’m asking for a lot this time, it’s Wireless, they can provide a lot. Definitely some squashies. Some mango juice, I’m going to ask them for Nandos even.’
He even tweeted he couldn’t wait for his ex girlfriend to see him up on that stage giving it large.

And he’s got a good philosophy for those people who once knew him and are trying to jump back on his success.
‘I think that happens no matter what you do, there’s always that person getting back in touch saying ‘remember this, remember that’ I just go along with it,’ he said. ‘The real ones always last. The fake ones drop out. They can’t manage anything.’
His humble surroundings inspire him to write, as do those close to him.
When asked what gets him writing, he said: ‘It depends how I’m feeling, so I might feel upset and want to talk about my family, so I’ll go into the studio with someone. And then go off that, sit down, we come up with something. By the end of the session we’ll have a great song. Sometimes I’m walking and I think of a line so I write it down or voice note a melody and that’s it.’
And now, after all of that, he can credit Millie Bobby Brown as a fan (not that he knew who she was!) after she uploaded a video of herself dancing to the song.
‘I didn’t realise who she was til someone explained. It was a lot to take in,’ he said.
And for those wanting new music, get ready – February is the month.
‘I’ve got something dropping next month. I don’t normally tell people but just to give the heads up. I’m not setting dates. Just tell them my birthday. Ah I’ve just given it away. But something is coming.’
