Pep Guardiola has confirmed Leroy Sane could miss up to seven weeks after he sustained ankle ligament damage during Sunday’s FA Cup win over Cardiff City.

The Germany international has been in scintillating form this season and played a key role in his side’s bid for an unprecedented quadruple.

Sane will, however, miss next month’s Carabao Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley as well as a Champions League last 16 tie against Basel.

‘Sane will be out for six or seven weeks,’ Gaurdiola confirmed ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash against West Brom.

Guardiola was angered by Joe Bennett’s tackle which cut short Sane’s involvement in last weekend’s 2-0 win over the Championship club.

‘For football in general players are the artists. The only thing they can do is protect them,’ Guardiola said after the match.

‘Referees have to protect – not just mine, all players. Sane will be out for a while. Maybe two or three weeks, or a month, we will see tomorrow. It’s his ankle.

‘I know my players, because it’s not just one, there was many. They decided to play in that way. There is one man who has to decide what is correct and what is incorrect. If he doesn’t anything can happen.’
