Will Star Wars be titled something radically different in China?

Change may be afoot as word on the street predicts the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga may take a new direction with its title in China.

According to Chinese film market analyst Gavin Feng, Solo: A Star Wars Story may flip the table big time by dropping the eponymous ‘Star Wars’ from its title.

Why?

Feng reported from movie website Mtime and suggested the change may come down to the ‘waning popularity of Star Wars in China’.

It’s predicted its new title will be a simple ‘Ranger Solo’ and we’re just not sure how we feel about that.

If there’s any market you risk a riot by meddling with, it’s the Star Wars franchise.

Still, you can’t argue with the figures.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens raked in an impressive $124 million (£87.5 million) in the local box office in China, but its sequels Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the latest offering, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, took in $69 million (£49 million) and $41 million (£29 million) respectively.

So, we guess the local market feels it’s best plan of attack is to change the title altogether.

Yes, trick the masses, that’ll do it!
