RIYADH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has underlined the significance of a workshop titled “The role of education in preventing extremism and radicalism” to be held in Niamey, Niger, on Monday.
The workshop will be held in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Islamic University of Niger.
Maha Akeel, director of the OIC communication department, said the importance of the workshop comes in light of widespread terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel-Saharan region.
She said the OIC and its affiliated institutions have been entrusted with the task of finding ways to fight radical extremism through education.
The workshop will issue recommendations and mechanisms to combat extremism and radicalization in the Sahel region, whose population is rapidly growing.
