Simona Halep was admitted to hospital with ‘severe dehydration’ after her Australian Open epic with Caroline Wozniacki, having struggled on court during the final at Melbourne Park.
The Romanian ended the tournament as runner-up following her loss to the Dane on Saturday, but required treatment in hospital for around four hours after the contest.
Halep was released in good health on Sunday, according to ESPN, but she required a drip to be attached to her arm as she recovered from what had been a gruelling evening’s work.

The 26-year-old had her blood pressure taken during the match, while both players were handed a 10-minute break between the second and third sets as the heat rule came into play.
And after losing her third Grand Slam final 6-7 6-3 4-6 in two hours and 49 minutes, Halep was admitted to hospital.
It had been a tough tournament for the top seed, who spent more than 12 hours on court ahead of the final – more than Roger Federer had needed.
Having gone over on her ankle in round one against Destanee Aiava, she had saved match points in two contests against Lauren Davis and Angelique Kerber to reach the final.
However, she fell short in her battle with Wozniacki to suffer her third defeat in a major final.
