Seems like Lil Rel Howery might be going to the Oscars as Jimmy Kimmel’s date, after the Get Out star revealed he hasn’t yet received his invite to the Oscars.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday 25 January, Lil Rel told host Jimmy that he was told he wasn’t in the ‘first group’ of invitees, despite the fact he had a pretty significant role in the film.

The 38-year-old played Rod Williams, best friend of Daniel Kaluuya‘s character Chris Washington and badass TSA agent. Get Out has been nominated for four Academy awards, including one for best picture.

Kimmel is set to host the Academy Awards for the second year in a row, and asked Howery if he was planning on attending the ceremony during his time on the talk show.

‘Well, I thought I was,’ he said. ‘You know, we called today looking for my ticket. And they were like “You’re not in the first group.”

‘So, the first tickets that they give out, I’m not on that list.’

The actor said he also went on YouTube to count how many guests attended the ceremony last year on behalf of La La Land and Moonlight.

‘There was like 20 people on stage,’ he exclaimed. ‘So they get extra tickets.’

But Jimmy said if Lil Rel doesn’t get his ticket, then he’ll try and pull some strings – he is the host, after all.

‘Listen, I’ll get you in, don’t worry,’ he assured him. ‘I’m the host of it. You had a big part in that movie. It’s not like you had a little scene.’

And we’re hoping that Lil Rel gets that ticket, because he turned down a pretty big invite to watch the Oscars with actual Jay Z in order to go to the ceremony.

‘I thought last night I was really good,’ the actor said. ‘They’re going to throw an after party. I’d rather go to the show, then afterwards

A rep for the Academy told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘We extend invitations to nominees only, and each studio and distributor receives a limited ticket allotment to use at their discretion.’
