Vandals attacked the baseball diamond made famous in the 1980s hit film “Field of Dreams,” leaving vehicle tracks all over its surface.

Photos of the damage to the Dyersville, Iowa, site were posted to the location’s Facebook page with a report reading, “Last night, our beloved Field was vandalized. We cannot fathom why a soul on this planet would desecrate this holy ground. We pray for whomever did this to our special place that they find peace in their hearts.”

According to Owner Denise Stillman, the vandals left thousands of dollars of damage in their wake. Patches of grass were ripped up and will have to be re-planted and the infield dirt was seriously rutted by the offenders’ vehicle. Stillman said that a sprinkler system was also damaged in the attack on the facility.

“Someone who is disturbed had some agenda to damage the field,” Stillman told the Dubuque Telegraph Herald. “It’s upsetting.”

The site has drawn curious movie fans since the Kevin Costner film debuted in 1989 and is scheduled to re-open for the season on the weekend following Major League Baseball’s March 29 opening day.

Stillman started a GoFundMe page asking for donations to have the damage repaired. The fundraiser has thus far raised nearly $4,000 of the $15, 000 needed to affect the repairs.
