It has been a milestone year for women in Hollywood and it seems the Academy decided to sprinkle a bit of girl power into the mix during the Oscars nominations.

To help make the nominations for the 90th Academy Awards slightly more fun, the live stream included themed introduction videos starring some of film’s most famous leading ladies.

Gal Gadot, Michelle Yeoh, Salma Hayek, Zoe Saldana and Molly Shannon all featured in the playful clips which helped to add a new twist to the usually straightforward announcements.

The first clip starred Wonder Woman star Gal sipping a cup of tea in a moving set to introduce the nominations for Production Design.

And fans couldn’t help but notice that the use of stars such as Gal, Rebel Wilson and Michelle Rodriguez meant actresses who don’t usually receive Oscar nominations were still able to be part of the event.

Intros starring top Hollywood actresses are a nice addition to the #OscarNoms announcements. Hope they continue this in years to come. #Oscars2018

They did videos demonstrating each of the categories so far, all featuring actresses, mostly women of colour, and the white women were Rebel Wilson and Molly Shannon. I'm impressed so far? We'll see how the actor categories fare for representation, though. https://t.co/jMRXb9QJZK

Hopefully this style of introductory video continues in future broadcasts.

It certainly helped to keep things interesting for the more technical nominations, and it’s nice to see these ladies getting involved in a different way.
