He can now add minister to his list of jobs.

Former president Barack Obama served as the officiant for the wedding between a current and a former member of his staff on Sunday.

Dana Remus, general counsel for the Obama Foundation and Obama's personal office, wed Brett Holmgren, who worked both as the special assistant to the President and the senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council Staff.

The wedding took place in Washington DC's newly-opened District Winery in Navy Yard with about 120 guests in attendance.

'We had decided to invite him because he was such an important part of our lives, we asked him if he could attend the wedding, and as we discussed it, he was intrigued with the idea of officiating a wedding,' Holmgren told the Washingtonian.

Obama reportedly earned a temporary officiant's license through the city government and signed the couple's wedding certificate.

The majority of the guests were unaware the former commander-in-chief would be speaking until the actual ceremony, and the close family that did know was sworn to secrecy.

Remus walked down the aisle to Pachelbel's Canon in D, and then President Obama spoke.

The groom's mother, Mary Holmgren, told the Washingtonian that Obama gave 'very sincere remarks' that 'came from the heart'.

'He complimented them both on their work, on the type of people they were, threw in a tiny bit of humor,' she said.

'He spoke about how their work has been a service to the people and how the two of them compliment each other.

After the ceremony, which was upstairs at the winery, the party moved downstairs for the reception. Though Obama was invited to stay for dinner, he only stayed long enough for a few pictures with the family before leaving.

Former first lady Michelle Obama was invited as well but was unable to attend.

Obama previously served as a groomsman in a wedding of his former personal aide, Marvin Nicholson, before leaving office last January.
