Irish musicians say goodbye to Dolores O'Riordan as radio stations play The Cranberries

Musicians have been paying tribute to singer Dolores O’Riordan as she is laid to rest in Ireland.

The singer’s funeral took place in Limerick today, with her final resting place set to be beside her dad Terry, who died from cancer aged 68, in their family plot at Caherally Cemetery outside of her home town of Ballybricken.

As her bandmates, ex husband and children, and the rest of her friends and family gather to say their goodbyes, her fellow musicians have been taking to Twitter to post heartfelt tributes.

Singer songwriter Mundy wrote: ‘Too young to go.The Queen of Munster. May @DolORiordan Rest in Peace. My prayers are with her family and friends and of course her music family @The_Cranberries’.

Imelda May wrote: Farewell @doloriordan our fiercely talented Queen of Limerick. She was an inspirational, trailblazing Mna an hEireann . My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and @The_Cranberries . #restinpeace.’

Celia Holman Lee added: ‘So sad for Dolores her children and her family but I am so proud of the Limerick people and the way they have remembered her with respect and dignity and above all love. May she Rest In Peace. Celia and family xx

Independent Irish radio stations are said to be planning to simultaneously play the band’s 1996 hit, When You’re Gone after the service has taken place to pay their own tribute to the singer, who was found dead aged 46 in a London hotel room.

Nikki Hayes of 4FM shared the news on Twitter: ‘I’ve only heard it happen a handful of times. All independent radio stations in Ireland tomorrow at midday will play @The_Cranberries #whenyouregone in respect to @DolORiordan #rip.’
