Most ‘fake news’ is pro-Trump and read by conservatives, research reveals
Wow, we’ve really come full-circle with this ‘fake news’ thing.
It turns out that most ‘fake news’ websites offer tons of pro-Trump content. In addition, the majority of readers of said websites are conservatives.

That’s according to brand, spanking new joint-research by Princeton University, Dartmouth College and the University of Exeter.
The analysis of ‘fake news’ is believed to be the first of its kind since Donald Trump first coined the phrase during his 2016 presidential election campaign.
The researcher wrote: ‘Using unique data combining survey responses with individual-level web traffic histories, we estimate that approximately one in four Americans visited a fake news website from October 7 to November 14 2016.
‘Trump supporters visited the most fake news websites, which were overwhelmingly pro-Trump.

‘However, fake news consumption was heavily concentrated among a small group — almost six in ten visits to fake news websites came from the ten percent of people with the most conservative online information diets. We also find that Facebook was a key vector of exposure to fake news and that fact-checks of fake news almost never reached its consumers.’
Data for the analyses combine responses to an online public opinion survey from a national sample of 2,525 Americans with web traffic data collected passively from their computers with their consent during the October 7 to November 14 2016 period.
The president only went off about ‘fake news’ on Twitter today.

He took aim at The New York Times, telling the new publisher, A.G. Sulzberger, to sack journalists who refuse to reveal their sources when reporting on anti-Trump news.
Since taking office last year, Trump has snubbed most media outlets and instead tried to turn his Twitter account into his own news service.
