Manchester United stuttered to a goalless draw with Southampton as they slipped to third spot in the Premier League on Saturday night.
Alex McCarthy, enjoying his Premier League debut for Saints, kept a clean sheet as Jose Mourinho was left frustrated.
Here, Sportsmail rates the players' performances from a frustrating evening for United boss Jose Mourinho.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)
David De Gea 7
Good early save to deny James Ward-Prowse and did even better to thwart Shane Long.
Ashley Young 9
Direct and dangerous going forward and alert at the back.
Victor Lindelof 6
Still struggling with the pace of the Premier League but just about coped.
Phil Jones 6
Used his experience when Saints threatened on the counter.
Luke Shaw 7
The latest in a series of solid displays from the recalled left back.
Nemanja Matic 5
Not his most commanding defensive effort and offered little going forward.
Paul Pogba 6
Covered plenty of ground but failed to stamp his authority on midfield.
Juan Mata 7
Busy display, directing United's attack and looked the best hope of carving a goal.
Jesse Lingard 6
Lively, hard-working and dangerous but no end product.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 4
Poor performance peppered with a series of unforced errors.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was poor for United as they failed to find a breakthrough on Saturday
Romelu Lukaku 5
Lasted just eight minutes until suffering a head injury but still missed a great headed chance.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Marcus Rashford (for Lukaku 13) 6
Anthony Martial (for Mkhitaryan 64) 7
Subs not used: Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Sergio Romero, Ander Herrera, Axel Tuanzebe.
MANAGER
Jose Mourinho 5
SOUTHAMPTON (4–2-3-1)
Alex McCarthy 7
Premier League debut to remember with plenty of solid handling.
Jack Stephens 7
Completely dominated Mkhitaryan and battled well against Martial.
Maya Yoshida 6
Lucky to escape a penalty shout but coped well with the pacy Rashford.
Wesley Hoedt 6
Innocent party in Lukaku's injury but guilty of missing a great chance to score.
Sam McQueen 7
Another solid defensive show, especially in a well-timed tackle on Rashford.
Oriol Romeu 6
Provded an important barrier in front of his back four.
Pierre Hojbjerg 6
Helped Saints keep a lid on the Pogba-Matic engine room.
James Ward-Prowse 9
Only denied a goal by De Gea's brilliance and set up a handful of chances.
Dusan Tadic 7
Well suited to Saints operating on the counter-attack with some neat passing.
Sofiane Boufal 7
Skilful and his footwork made him difficult to contain.
Shane Long 6
Should have buried Saints' best chance at the start of second half.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Manolo Gabbiadini (for Long 79) 6
Mario Lemina (for Tadic 81) 6
Nathan Redmond (for Boufal 85) 6
Subs not used: Steven Davis, Jeremy Pied, Jan Bednarek, Fraser Forster.

Got most of the decisions that mattered right.
