Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson’s ‘candy-ass’ feud may be about to take a turn for the worse, as Diesel has beaten Johnson to be named the top-grossing actor of 2017 after bringing in $1.6 billion (£1.19 billion) across the globe this year.

The figures come courtesy of the surprise hit xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, as well as the eighth Fast And Furious film, which bought in the majority of the receipts; $1.2 billion at the global box office.

Diesel’s Fast And Furious co-star Johnson came in second; he may have taken the top spot if his summer film, the reboot of Baywatch, hadn’t bombed bringing in a lowly $178 million (£133 million) worldwide.

Johnson’s most recent film, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is still in cinemas and so is not included in the total as the amounts are calculated up to 26 December 2017.

Elsewhere, three women made the top ten with Gal Gadot nabbing the third spot thanks to the huge success of DC and Warner Bros’ Wonder Woman; the critically-panned Justice League helped to bring her total to $1.4 billion (£1.04 million) worldwide.

Emma Watson took fourth place thanks to the smash hit Beauty And The Beast, while Johnny Depp came in at fifth.
