Vin Diesel beats The Rock to bring in more box office receipts despite their ‘candy ass’ feud
Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson’s ‘candy-ass’ feud may be about to take a turn for the worse, as Diesel has beaten Johnson to be named the top-grossing actor of 2017 after bringing in $1.6 billion (£1.19 billion) across the globe this year.
The figures come courtesy of the surprise hit xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, as well as the eighth Fast And Furious film, which bought in the majority of the receipts; $1.2 billion at the global box office.
Diesel’s Fast And Furious co-star Johnson came in second; he may have taken the top spot if his summer film, the reboot of Baywatch, hadn’t bombed bringing in a lowly $178 million (£133 million) worldwide.
Johnson’s most recent film, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle is still in cinemas and so is not included in the total as the amounts are calculated up to 26 December 2017.

Emma Watson took fourth place thanks to the smash hit Beauty And The Beast, while Johnny Depp came in at fifth.
Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley pipped her co-star John Boyega to sixth place with $1.08 billion (£758 million)- John took the tenth spot – while Spider-Man star Tom Holland took seventh, Chris Pratt eighth and Chris Hemsworth ninth.
