England will be looking to reclaim some of the pride that was lost along with the Ashes when they crashed to a third thumping defeat in three Tests in Perth.

However, after an eventful first day at the MCG it was Australia who stole the ascendancy. David Warner survived a no-ball catch to post a terrific century as skipper Steve Smith again made 50 with the hosts finishing on 244-3.

Another tough day is expected for the tourists' bowling attack with still seven wickets to claim on possibly the flattest wicket of the series, but who knows, remove Smith and it could spark a middle order collapse. The urn may be gone but there's still a whitewash to evade here.
