Poor Saoirse Ronan has heard her name mangled everywhere from the red carpet to awards ceremonies.

And now, RuPaul has come up with the worst – or best – interpretation of the actress’s name yet.

Twitter has been left in stitches after Drag Race host RuPaul referred to the Irish actress as ‘Sir Shaw’.

Ru had just been to see Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird, which is enjoying major critical acclaim – even briefly ousting Toy Story 2 as the highest rated film on Rotten Tomatoes.

And the drag queen took to Twitter to praise the movie, writing: ‘LOVED film “Lady Bird.” Sir Shaw, Greta Gerwig & Laurie Metcalf for the win. Beanie Feldstein is effen brilliant, too.’

Before you go traipsing through IMDB to find out who Sir Shaw plays in Lady Bird, Ru actually meant Saoirse.

Arise, Sir Shaw.

And fans couldn’t cope with the genius blunder:

If @RuPaul wants to call Saoirse Ronan ‘Sir Shaw’ then we’re all calling her Sir Shaw gawdamnit!

Ru isn’t the only person to have trouble with Saoirse’s name.

Back in 2015, Dennis Quaid made an absolute shambles of her moniker during the Golden Globes nominations announcement, calling her ‘Sheesha Ronan’.

The 23-year-old has worn signs on The Ellen Show with the pronunication, and even performed a song to attempt to explain how to say her name to Saturday Night Live viewers.

For the record, Saoirse – meaning freedom in Irish is pronounced Sursha (like inertia) or Sersha, depending on your accent.

But definitely not Sheesha or Sir Shaw.
