Star Wars’ John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran’s The Last Jedi ‘chemistry’ audition is the cutest thing ever
Footage from a ‘chemistry’ audition for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has officially been released online – and we can’t get over how cute John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran are in it.
No, but seriously, their friendship on and off screen is one of the best things to come out of the eighth episode.
Arguably one of this year’s biggest breakout performances of the year has come from Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose Tico and this ‘chemistry’ read with John, who plays Finn, proves why director Rian Johnson chose her for the role.

This clip, which was released on the Star Wars Facebook page, was filmed roughly a year before The Last Jedi began shooting and offers a sneaky hint for those who have yet to see it of how Rose and Finn’s friendship develops.
It’s a rare look into the casting process and from the looks of it an earlier draft of a scene that ended up in the film.
‘I really, really, really like Kelly,’ Johnson says after the read, adding that seeing her feels as if the character he had in his head while writing the script ‘showed up to read.’
Kelly Marie made history as the first female Asian-American actor to star in a Star Wars film, and her portrayal of Rose is groundbreaking for that fact alone, but Tran has also received critical praise for her performance in the film.
It seems as if the actress has been having a whale of a time during the Star Wars press run this month as she cried happy tears on the red carpet for film’s premiere.
She admitted to Metro.co.uk: ‘I don’t want to look back in 50 years and think I never let myself feel anything so I thought, I don’t care if people said don’t cry, I was going to let myself be a mess.’
She also told us that she had a closer relationship with John, simply due to the amount of time they spent together on set, and highlighted one particularly memorable incident.
‘There is one [moment] where John and I were filming a scene and as soon as we finished the shot he turned to me and said, “we’re making history”, and I think I’ll remember that forever,’ she recalled.
Basically, we ‘ship’ John and Kelly Marie.
