Manchester City have been handed a double boost ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth with David Silva and John Stones returning to training.

Spain international Silva missed the impressive victory over Tottenham due to personal reasons and Pep Guardiola said he ‘did not know’ whether he would return this weekend.

But Silva appears to be in contention for the home clash against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth as he joined his team-mates for training ahead of a brutal festive period.

Stones, who has been out since suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Leicester in November, was also pictured as he builds up his fitness.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a superb start to the season – scoring three goals in the Champions League group stage – and may return before the turn of the New Year.

Asked this week whether he hoped to sign another defender during the January transfer window, Pep Guardiola replied: ‘I said many times we are going to try.

‘I don’t know if we will be able because the market is completely different than in summer time.
