Kaepernick and ‘Diddy’ in Planning Phases of Buying Carolina Panthers

Colin Kaepernick and Steph Curry told Sean “Diddy” Combs that they wanted to join his effort to buy the Carolina Panthers.
And apparently, they weren’t joking.
Carolina Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson set-off a whirlwind of news and activity last Sunday, when his organization announced that he would sell the team after details of the sexual harassment charges filed against him became public.
Part of that ensuing whirlwind, was the social media announcement by rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, that he would like to buy the team and make Colin Kaepernick his quarterback. For his part, Kaepernick expressed taking a job in the front office, as opposed to taking the job under center.
Now, a few days later, we can report that Kaepernick and Combs are apparently quite serious about becoming the NFL’s first black owners.
As reported by Yahoo! Sports, Kaepernick and Combs have discussed the purchase of the team, and Kaepernick is already trying to line-up potential investors.
According to the New York Post, “There are no majority owners in the NFL who are African-American — Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is the only non-white owner — and the Combs/Kaepernick team would like to change that. Richardson, who announced he is selling his family’s stake shortly after an array of sexual harassment accusations arose against him, owns 48 percent of the Panthers. Given the current ownership structure, buying his 48 percent would make someone (or a group of someones) the controlling member of the group.
“Yahoo Sports projected the cost of Richardson’s 48 percent at $1.2 billion, which is more than Combs is worth, according to Forbes.”
However, that number is not unattainable for the “Diddy” and Kaepernick group. Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, who grew up in North Carolina, also says that he wants in on the ownership group. What’s important to remember is that Curry and Kaepernick are Bay Area sports legends, which means that they’re well-known and, given their political stances, presumably well-liked by the wealthy liberal elites in the Silicon Valley.
Elites who would like nothing more than to “stick it” to President Trump, who has been loudly and proudly critical of both Kaepernick and Curry. Meaning, the potential ownership trio of Combs, Kaepernick, and Curry, should have no trouble finding the money they need to buy Richardson’s 48 percent stake in the Panthers.
