Just in time for the holidays, Disney has dropped a teaser trailer for The Nutcracker And The Four Realms, the studio’s live-action retelling of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 story The Nutcracker And The Mouse King. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom and produced by Mark Gordon, the fairy tale stars Mackenzie Foy, Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Matthew Macfadyen, Helen Mirren and more.

The story follows Clara (Foy) whose only wish is to get hold of a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Freeman) annual holiday party leads her to the coveted key — which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. There, Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world.

Other cast members include Jack Whitehall, Richard E Grant and Eugenio Derbez. There’s also a special performance by Misty Copeland. Knightley is playing the sugar-plum fairy.

Disney opens The Nutcracker domestically on November 2 and in the UK, where the film was shot, on October 26.
