Stephen A: ‘It Would Be Nice’ for the NFL to Let a Black Owner Take Over the Carolina Panthers

In the wake of the report that Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson will sell the team due to a workplace misconduct investigation, ESPN “First Take” co-host Stephen A. Smith said Monday that “it would be nice” if the NFL allowed a black owner to take over.

On Sunday, hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs tweeted out his interest in purchasing the team, later adding that he would like to sign Colin Kaepernick — even though the team already has its franchise quarterback in Cam Newton.

I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word. Retweet!

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry grew up in Charlotte, NC, and tweeted he would like to join Combs in owning the team.

“This is 2017,” Smith noted. “The National Football League is the number one league in America. I would like to see an African-American owner let in.”

Smith later added, “It would be nice for the National Football League to get away from the good old boys club and let an African-American in as an owner — or a group of African-Americans ultimately own a team. That would be nice to see.”
