Berlin Film Festival Sets Gus Van Sant, Benoît Jacquot On Early Competition Roster

The first group of titles selected for the Berlin Film Festival competition have been unveiled with new offerings from Gus Van Sant and Benoît Jacquot among them. Two Berlinale Special Galas have also joined the lineup. Wes Anderson’s Isle Of Dogs was previously announced as the opening night film, which will also play in competition.
New films added to the roster include Van Sant’s Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill and Rooney Mara. A biopic of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan, it will be playing Sundance before heading to the German capital. Also in the lineup is Jacquot’s Eva starring Isabelle Huppert in its world premiere.
So far two films have been invited to participate in the Berlinale Special. They are: Isabel Coixet’s The Bookshop and Lars Kraume’s Das Schweigende Klassenzimmer. Berlin kicks off on February 15.
