Berlin Film Festival Unveils First Panorama Titles For 2018
The Berlin Film Festival has unveiled the first titles in its Panorama sidebar. The festival has confirmed 11 films, put together for the first time by new section head Paz Lázaro together with Michael Stütz and Andreas Struck.
Highlights include Timur Bekmambetov’s US fiction film Profile, which follows a British journalist who goes undercover and infiltrates the digital propaganda channels of the so-called Islamic State, German documentary Zentralflughafen THF (Central Airport THF), directed by Brazilian-Algerian Karim Aïnouz, who films the everyday lives of refugees in the hangars of the defunct Berlin airport Tempelhof and Yocho (Foreboding), a science fiction film by Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, which follows aliens that take over human emotions.
There are four films from Latin America: La Omisión (The Omission), a story about a transient worker from Argentinian filmmaker Sebastián Schjaer, Malambo, El Hombre Bueno (Malambo, The Good Man), the Santiago Loza-directed tale of a malambo dancer, Brazilian documentary Ex-Pajé (Ex Shaman) by Luiz Bolognesi, which explores the imminent ethnocide of the indigenous Paiter Suruí who live in the Amazon basin, and Bixa Travesty (Tranny Fag), which follows a black, transgender singer Linn da Quebrada.
