Let’s face it, this was never going to run smoothly was it? Aidan Maguire has been circling the alpha males of EastEnders like a conniving hawk of late and will gather them all together to carry out a dangerous plan this New Year – but when it all goes wrong, it could have severe consequences for those involved.
As the big job arrives, Aidan has managed to secure Phil Mitchell, Mick Carter, Vincent Hubbard and Keanu Taylor as associates but before long, things are starting to spiral out of control. And with a gun involved in the melee, lives could be at risk.
Teasing what fans can expect, Danny Walters, who plays Keanu, told us: ‘We will see a different side to Keanu. It’s really interesting because inside the Taylor house he has his role – he has his position in the house and his status. But then when you take him out of the house and put him in the Square amongst these other men, you start to see a different side. He becomes vulnerable and quite scared of the dangers that are involved with this job.
‘I would massively urge Keanu to stay well out of it – but he gets in too deep. He doesn’t want his family to know what he is doing. The more people who know, the more they could get involved and the people who Keanu is involved with are dangerous. Keanu is very protective over family so once Bernadette is involved that gives him more fear with this job.’
While things look set to end badly, Danny is relishing the opportunity to work with different actors – not least of all Hollywood legend Patrick Bergin, who plays Aidan.
He enthused: ‘It’s been really nice to work with some of the other people on EastEnders and see what they bring to the scenes. It’s been fun. The way Patrick is on set, the way he holds himself and his professionalism – I have massive respect for him. Working with him was an honour.
‘I did a scene with the Taylor family and Patrick Bergin was in the scene as well. For ten seconds I just took my environment in. I had Patrick on my right, I’m with the Taylor family, I’m on the set of EastEnders and with the Christmas tree which is so iconic, it’s so big, in the middle of the Square, and I’m thinking ”this is a pretty cool day to be working.”’
Fans will have to tune in on New Year’s Day on BBC One to find out just how badly this big plan goes.
